Commissioner Seku Rallies Bugisu Patriotism Leaders, Announces UGX 100M Support for Alumni SACCOs

Yesterday, Commissioner Hellen Seku, Head of the National Secretariat for Patriotism, held a meeting with Patriotism Instructors and Coordinators from the Bugisu Sub-region.

Commissioner Seku applauded the Instructors and Coordinators for their dedication to promoting patriotism and nurturing national values in their communities. She commended them for their commitment to advancing national pride and unity.

“Patriotism is a collective responsibility. With this, we can build a stronger, more united nation. Our special initiatives are designed to promote national pride and support our youth,” Seku emphasized.

She reminded the participants that patriotism is a powerful tool in combating ideological disorientation. She cited Article 17(a) of the 1995 Constitution of Uganda, which states that it is the duty of every citizen to be patriotic, loyal, and to promote the well-being of Uganda, including undergoing patriotic training.

Commissioner Seku also encouraged both Instructors and Coordinators to create SACCOs for alumni of patriotism programs. She noted that the President has pledged to inject UGX 100 million per district to support these SACCOs and help members become more prosperous.

“They can borrow, invest, and create wealth. This would help them become self-reliant,” she said.

She further urged the Instructors and Coordinators to take advantage of existing government programs such as the Presidential Skilling Hubs, Parish Development Model (PDM), Emyooga, the Youth Livelihood Fund, and the Graduates Fund.

“Utilize these programs and promote a culture of farming. Coffee does well in Bugisu, you can generate income from it,” she advised.

Commissioner Seku concluded by announcing that refresher courses will resume once she receives guidance from the President. These courses, she said, are intended to re-instil a sense of national pride, foster unity, promote responsible citizenship, and encourage active participation in national development.
