Muranga, Kenya — The Consolata Missionaries Kenya-Uganda Region recently marked a significant milestone: 100 years of their presence in Kenya.

The grand celebration took place at Tuthu Parish in the Murang’a Catholic Diocese, a parish that holds special historical significance as the site of the congregation’s first mission, established in 1902.

The ceremony was presided over by Bishop Emeritus Virgilio Pante of the Maralal Diocese, alongside Fr. Zack Kareoke, the Regional Superior of the Consolata Missionaries for Kenya and Uganda.

Bishop Peter Makau, Bishop of Isiolo Diocese, delivered the homily, highlighting the congregation’s mission to evangelize, particularly among marginalized and local communities.

In his homily, Bishop Makau expressed gratitude to the pioneering missionaries who worked tirelessly to spread the faith. He also acknowledged the contributions of Italian missionaries, including Bishop Emeritus Fr. Birambira and Sr. Josephine, who have continued to serve in the region.

The Consolata Missionaries have a long and rich history in Kenya, dating back to 1902 when the first four missionaries arrived in the country. Founded by Blessed Joseph Allamano in 1901, the congregation’s primary mission is evangelization, particularly among non-Christians.

Today, the Consolata Missionaries continue to serve in Kenya and Uganda, working closely with local communities and churches to build a more just and compassionate society. As they celebrate this significant centennial anniversary, they remain committed to spreading the Gospel and serving the most vulnerable.

The congregation’s 100th anniversary is a testament to their enduring legacy and dedication to their mission.

As Bishop Emeritus Pante noted during the celebration, it is now time for Africans to take up leadership in the congregation, signaling a new chapter in its history.

With Fr. Lengalin from Kenya serving as the General Superior, the Consolata Missionaries are poised to continue their mission of evangelization and service to humanity.
