The Sheraton Kampala Hotel hosted a memorable gathering on Monday night, as diplomats, policymakers, and business leaders came together to commemorate a century of Turkey’s independence.

The event was a vibrant demonstration of global unity, evident through the diverse attire of the attendees, a delightful array of international cuisines, fine wines, spirits, and a variety of salads.

Among the culinary delights offered to the guests were dishes such as Imacun, Kandil Simidi, Midya tava, and Elti ekmek. These delectable treats were accompanied by boiled pumpkins, succulent mutton roast, flavored milk, and the option of spiced tea or piping hot coffee.

The distinguished guest of honor, Minister of State for Foreign Affairs Oryem Okello, expressed his admiration for the Makerere University Music Club, which performed national anthems. He suggested that the club should become a regular feature at state functions.

“As we approach Uganda’s centennial celebration of independence, our goal is to reach the level of development that Turkey has achieved. Our journey involves transitioning from import dependence to promoting industrialization and value addition,” Okello remarked.

The host, His Excellency Memet Fatih, exuded a sense of contentment, acknowledging the challenging path Turkey had traversed to attain its current economic, political, and social prosperity.

“Countless lives were sacrificed to bring Turkiye to where it stands today, both economically and politically. The bilateral relations between Uganda and Turkey continue to grow stronger,” Fatih noted.

The guests enjoyed the evening to the melodies of Turkish, Ugandan, and English Jazz, tapping their feet and snapping their fingers as they savored beverages and indulged in the delectable spiced snacks.
