Chief Justice Alfonse Chigamoy Owiny-Dollo presided over a significant joint stakeholder meeting on Thursday, February 22, 2024, aimed at enhancing Uganda’s justice system. Organized by the Justice Sector Development Partners’ Group in collaboration with the Austrian Development Cooperation Office and the International Development Law Organization (IDLO), the meeting gathers key players in the justice sector.

In attendance are heads of missions and justice institutions, convened to deliberate on the crucial role of a robust and supportive justice system. The roundtable discussion, initiated at the request of Chief Justice Owiny-Dollo and Minister of Justice and Constitutional Affairs Norbert Mao, underscores the collaborative efforts towards justice sector development.

Representing the Austrian Development Cooperation is Dr. Katja Kerschbaumer, the Head of Office. Together, these stakeholders recognize the pivotal role of the justice sector in upholding the rule of law and facilitating sustainable development across various sectors.

They assert that a well-functioning justice system is essential for instilling confidence in both local and international investors, ensuring the protection of investments, and fair resolution of commercial disputes. The meeting, hosted at Mestil Hotel in Kampala, serves as a platform to reaffirm the commitment of the Government of Uganda and Development Partners to a robust partnership and their collective aim of fortifying the justice sector.
