Chief Magistrate Kenneth Komakech of the Kisoro Chief Magistrates Court yesterday committed five individuals to Kabale High Court on charges of aggravated rape and robbery.

The accused, including Bucanayandi Godfrey, Duhimbaze Gilbert, Manishimwe Gilbert, Bizimana Derrick of Nyarusiza sub-county, and Muhozi Alex Joshua of Nyakinama sub-county, all residents of Kisoro district, allegedly perpetrated these heinous acts on March 22, 2023.

During the court proceedings, State prosecutor Christopher Ainomugisha presented compelling evidence, including form 3 (a) from Uganda Prisons Health Centre (ii), which documented the victim’s ordeal of being subjected to total rape. Additional confirmation came in the form of form 24 (a) from health personnel, ruling out any mental health issues among the accused, implying a clear state of mind during their actions.

Chief Magistrate Komakech, acknowledging the severity of the offenses and the weight of the evidence presented, ordered the five individuals to face a fresh hearing in Kabale High Court, where they will potentially face a stricter penalty.

The complainant, Jasinta Irankunda, a 22-year-old resident of Kasemisego village, Hospital Ward, Southern Division, Kisoro Municipality, was assured of being notified of the court date for the High Court proceedings.
