Former Kilak North Aspirant Christopher Ojera Remanded Over Shs17.1 Million Fraud Allegations.

Gulu Chief Magistrate’s Court sign post

Peter Luzinda | GULU, Uganda — A former parliamentary aspirant for Kilak North Constituency, Christopher Ojera, has been remanded to prison after appearing before court on allegations of obtaining Shs17.1 million from a businesswoman by false pretences.

Ojera was arraigned before the Gulu Chief Magistrate’s Court, where prosecutors accused him of fraudulently obtaining the money after allegedly convincing the complainant that he would facilitate a business opportunity.

According to the prosecution, the accused reportedly promised the businesswoman that he would help her secure a deal that would yield financial benefits. However, after receiving the money, he allegedly failed to fulfil the promise and reportedly became unreachable.

Court heard that the complainant later reported the matter to authorities after efforts to recover her money proved futile, prompting investigations that led to Ojera’s arrest.

The accused denied the charges when they were read to him in court. However, the presiding magistrate ordered that he be remanded to prison as investigations into the case continue.

The matter was adjourned to a later date, when Ojera is expected to return to court for mention of the case.
