Court Sets March 18th to Decide Bail for Agasirwe in Kagezi Murder Case

Peter Luzinda | KAMPALA, Uganda —The High Court of Uganda in Kampala has set 18th March 2026, as the date to deliver its ruling on the bail application of former Special Investigations Unit commandant Nickson Agasirwe Karuhanga, who is accused of murdering Assistant Director of Public Prosecutions Joan Namazzi Kagezi.

During Thursday’s proceedings, Isaac Muwata confirmed that both the defence and prosecution had uploaded their submissions on the judiciary’s Electronic Court Case Management Information System (ECCMIS), enabling the court to proceed without hearing oral arguments.

Chief State Attorney Richard Birivumbuka, who represents the state, was absent from court, citing other prosecutorial duties.

However, the judge ruled that the matter did not need to be postponed, noting that all the evidence and submissions required to determine the bail application were already on record.

Agasirwe remains in custody as the court prepares to deliver its ruling.

Kagezi was fatally shot in 2015 while returning home from work, a killing that shocked Uganda’s legal community due to her involvement in several high-profile prosecutions, including terrorism trials.
