A recent development within the law enforcement circles has unveiled yet another case of alleged misconduct and mismanagement, leading to the suspension of a senior police officer. Assistant Commissioner of Police (ACP) Johnson Olal, the Commander of the Land Protection Police Unit (LPPU), has been suspended amidst accusations of mishandling investigations into a contentious land dispute, further tarnishing the image of the police force.

The allegations against ACP Olal stem from a land transaction dating back to June 2020, involving popular city businessman Robert Twinomujuni, the proprietor of Akamwesi properties. It is reported that Twinomujuni, along with his alleged accomplice Samson Arinaitwe, faces charges related to the fraudulent sale of leasehold land in Ruhama, Ntungamo District, purportedly documented in a forged sale agreement.

According to sources familiar with the matter, the suspension of ACP Olal follows extensive investigations conducted separately by the Police Inspectorate and the Police Professional Standards Unit. While details surrounding the suspension remain shrouded in secrecy, police officials have refrained from divulging specific information pending formal notification and deliberations with the Director of Human Resource Management.

The intricate web of allegations surrounding the land dispute has garnered significant attention, with Twinomujuni and Arinaitwe accused of forging signatures and engaging in fraudulent activities to unlawfully transfer ownership of the contested land parcel. Despite attempts by the victims to seek recourse through law enforcement channels, including reporting the matter to the Ntungamo District Police Station and petitioning the Police Land Protection Unit and the Criminal Investigations Directorate (CID) headquarters in Kibuli, justice remained elusive.

The reopening of the case following directives from higher political offices has led to far-reaching consequences, including the suspension of ACP Olal to facilitate impartial investigations. Additionally, the law enforcement agency has initiated inquiries into officers at the Office of the Administrator General to determine any complicity in facilitating the disputed land transactions, highlighting the pervasive nature of corruption and malpractice within the system.
