A 42-year-old secondary school teacher from Sheema District, Robert Kakanyisa, has been remanded to prison on charges of unlawfully killing his wife, 33-year-old Christine Komuhangi. The Mbarara Chief Magistrate, Andrew Kabombo, presided over the court session on December 18, 2023.

The court heard that the incident occurred on March 8, 2023, at the couple’s residence in Rushanje, Bugamba, Rwampara District. State attorney Gerald Oddini, leading the prosecution, informed the court that investigations are still ongoing and requested an adjournment.

During the proceedings, Chief Magistrate Kabombo read the charges to Kakanyisa and conveyed that the magistrate’s court lacks jurisdiction for his capital offense case, which falls under the purview of the High Court.
