Apac District Police Commander (DPC) Rodgers Kapere confirmed in a statement on Sunday, that the suspect, Corporal Churchill Ocaya, is at Pader Central Police Station. However, it was not explicitly mentioned whether he has been detained. Kapere explained that the police are investigating the incident, and the Inspector of Vehicles (IOV) from Lira District will assess the involved vehicle to determine if there was a brake failure.
The fatal incident occurred at a checkpoint along Lira-Kitgum Road, Rackoko Trading Centre in Pader District, where Ocaya, stationed at Apac Central Police Station, was driving a police vehicle. Initial reports suggest that on December 15, the suspect allegedly left his duty station to transport his family to his village in Pader District, using a police van and carrying a rifle loaded with 60 rounds of ammunition. Investigations are ongoing.
