Police in Rukungiri District are investigating the circumstances surrounding the death of a 30-year-old boda boda rider named Elias Bakamuzara.
Bakamuzara was last seen on October 17, 2023, when he went to Rukungiri town with his friend Ambrose Twemurikye. Bakamuzara told Twemurikye that he wanted to check on his girlfriend, but he didn’t disclose her name or location.
Twemurikye called Bakamuzara three times after he went to see his girlfriend, but Bakamuzara didn’t answer his phone. Twemurikye then hired another motorcycle to return to Mitooma.
On October 18, 2023, police located Bakamuzara’s motorcycle in the possession of Turyatunga Moses, the area chairperson of Kigango Village in Ndago Parish, Nyarushanje Sub-county. Moses said that he received the motorcycle from a resident named Kyarikunda Justina, whose grandson, Kwikiriza Benson, along with another unidentified person brought it to her home on the morning of October 17, 2023.
On October 23, 2023, Agatha Kenganzi discovered an unidentified body in the Kabanguha river while digging in her garden in Kaitumura cell, Northern B ward, Eastern division, Rukungiri Municipality/district.
Police retrieved the body and transported it to Rwakabengo Health Center III for identification and a post-mortem examination. The post-mortem examination revealed that Bakamuzara was strangled to death.
Police are currently interviewing witnesses and conducting further investigations to identify and apprehend the suspects.
