Retired Cop’s Goats Stolen in Napak: Police on the Hunt

In Kangole town council, Napak district, a group of criminals attacked the residence of retired Inspector of Police Samuel Lokong on Monday, October 30, 2023, taking more than 20 goats. The incident occurred around 1:00 am and is causing concern in the area.

Napak Resident District Commissioner Denis Okori confirmed the attack on Lokong’s property, describing it as unfortunate. Authorities have launched a manhunt for the culprits, who have been reported in various villages, causing unrest.

Okori mentioned that for the past 20 weeks, the majority of their villages had enjoyed relative peace, but the situation changed recently. He suspects that the criminals responsible for the security concerns in Napak may have come from neighboring Moroto and Nabilatuk districts.

In recent months, the community voluntarily surrendered 110 guns, which initially improved security. Okori urged the community to stay vigilant and report any suspicious individuals collaborating with these criminal gangs.

In a separate incident, Okori revealed that last week, an army patrol killed a thug during an operation in Nagul’angolol village, Ngoleriet sub-county. Surprisingly, the deceased turned out to be a Senior Three student from Arengesiep SSS in Nakapiripirit district. His identity was revealed through a cattle clearance form found in his pocket.

The situation in Napak has become a matter of concern as these armed individuals are causing a reign of terror. In another tragic incident, the retreating criminals shot dead a school teacher, Simon Peter Ilukol, who had ventured out during the early hours to investigate the chaos in Namekwi village, Ngoleriet sub-county. A former Tanzanian-trained Police officer, Prescot Sagal, was also killed by these thugs near the Omani-man seasonal river in Lomunit village, Lotome Sub County.

Despite the increasing incidents of thuggery, Karamoja Police region spokesperson Mike Longole reassured the public that the police are taking action to address the situation and restore security in Napak district.
