Kampala, Uganda: Popular Ugandan pastor Aloysius Bugingo, founder of House of Prayer Ministries International, narrowly escaped a deadly attack on Tuesday evening while returning home. The incident has sent shockwaves through the country, raising concerns about rising gun violence and the safety of prominent figures.
According to reports, gunmen fired at Bugingo’s car near the Total fuel station in Namungoona, Kampala district. While the pastor sustained injuries, he was thankfully not in critical condition and is currently receiving medical care. Tragically, his driver, identified only as Richard, succumbed to the gunshot wounds.
Deputy Resident City Commissioner Anderson Burora confirmed the attack and assured the public that Bugingo is now out of danger. He further stated that authorities are investigating the circumstances surrounding the incident and a detailed statement will be released soon.
Bugingo, known for his outspoken views in support of the ruling government and first son Gen Muhoozi Kainerugaba’s political aspirations, has faced criticism from some quarters. However, the attack has garnered widespread condemnation, with calls for swift action to bring the perpetrators to justice.
This incident comes amidst growing concerns about gun violence in Uganda. Last year saw a surge in high-profile shootings, with several prominent individuals losing their lives.
The recent attack on Bugingo underscores the urgency for effective measures to curb gun violence and ensure the safety of all citizens.
