Hoima and Kikuube districts in the Albertine region have been rocked by a tragic car crash resulting in the death of three individuals and injury to two others. The deceased victims are identified as Jonan Tasobya, Eric Asiku, and Faustino Nyai.
Jonan Tasobya, hailing from Musijjamukulu in Buhimba sub-county, Kikuube district, met his untimely demise as a Toyota Premio (UAL 312C) was overtaking a parked lorry on the Hoima-Fort Portal road in Hoima city. The collision involved motorcycles (UER268L and UAZ175J) and a lorry (UAQ534C). Tasobya was tragically run over by the Premio, succumbing to his injuries on the spot, while his passenger sustained injuries.
The injured passengers, Innocent Asigunza and Kenneth Arinda, are currently receiving medical attention. Asigunza is hospitalized, and Arinda, in critical condition, urgently requires medical care. The vehicles and motorcycles involved in the incident have been seized for investigation at Hoima City Police Station.
Another fatal crash claimed the life of Faustino Nyai on the Butiaba-Kigorobya-Biiso-Buliisa road in Mparanjwoki village in Hoima city. The collision occurred between a Toyota Premio (UBC993D) from Buliisa district and Nyai, who was riding a Yamaha (UDF 571Z). The driver fled the scene with the vehicle, prompting an active search by the police.
In a separate incident on the same day, tragedy struck at Kyandagano village in Muteeme parish in Kiziranfumbi sub-county in Kikuube district. Eric Asiku, a sugarcane loader, lost his life as he fell off a tractor (UBG488Y/UAY348U) carrying sugarcane. The tractor’s tires ran over him, resulting in his immediate death. The driver also fled the scene, leaving the tractor behind, later towed to Kikuube Police Station.
Julius Hakiiza, the police spokesperson for the region, reported that postmortems were conducted, and the bodies of the deceased were handed over to their respective families for burial. Investigations into these unfortunate incidents are ongoing.
