(Kampala) – A 23 year old man was arrested at Kitintale Police Station for impersonating a police officer and carrying a toy pistol. Police are now investigating possible links to other criminal activities.
On October 23, 2024, Mugume Langton, a resident of Namugongo, was detained after arriving at Kitintale Police Station claiming to be an Assistant Superintendent of Police (ASP) attached to the Crime Intelligence Directorate. Mugume’s purpose for the visit was to inquire about a suspect detained for motorcycle theft.
During the encounter, police officers became suspicious of Mugume’s behavior and questioned his credentials. After further checks, authorities discovered that Mugume’s police identity was fabricated and that the firearm he carried was merely a toy pistol. Following his arrest, he was formally charged with impersonation.
Suspect | Age | Residence | Alleged Role | Evidence Found | Status |

Police spokesperson Patrick Onyango confirmed the arrest, stating that further investigation is underway to determine if Mugume could be connected to other criminal activities or if he had additional motives for the impersonation.
The police encouraged the public to remain vigilant, as cases of individuals falsely presenting themselves as law enforcement officers are a concern in security circles. Authorities are now keen to investigate whether Mugume’s actions were part of a larger scheme or if they were isolated to this incident.
