Police in the Kampala Metropolitan Area are investigating the circumstances surrounding the death of a Chinese national at a hotel in the city. The victim, identified as Jing Feng, was employed by Hongmei Engineering and lived in Nakawa, Kampala.

According to Luke Owoyesigyire, the deputy spokesperson of Kampala Metropolitan Police, the incident occurred on June 22, 2024. Jing Feng and three others had gone to the Golden Ann Hotel on Fifth Street in Nakawa for an evening of socializing. Preliminary investigations suggest that Jing Feng became heavily intoxicated, leading his friends to book him a room to rest.

Shortly after this, security guards at the hotel heard someone on the ground crying out in severe pain. Owoyesigyire, speaking at the weekly security briefing on Monday, stated that the exact events leading to Jing Feng’s death are still unclear.

To uncover the truth, police are now reviewing all available CCTV footage to understand Jing Feng’s final moments. This investigation will help determine whether he was pushed or if his fall was accidental.

Additionally, the police are making efforts to collect separate statements from Jing Feng’s friends to piece together a clearer picture of what transpired that night.
