Guston Asiimwe and Ruth Aharizira, residents of Kasoni Cell, Rwenyangi Parish in Kamwezi Sub-county, have been detained by the police for questioning in relation to the murder of 40-year-old Martin Tumwekwase. Tumwekwase, who was previously married to Ruth Aharizira, was discovered deceased in his residence at Kamwezi Trading Centre.
According to Asp Elly Maate, the Kigezi Region Police spokesperson, the deceased was last seen on 11/11/2023 around 9:00 PM at Didas bar, accompanied by both suspects. Although they left together, the following morning he was found lifeless in his home.
The police were alerted to the incident by Bonnie Tugumisirize, the area chairperson of Kasoni Cell. In response, the OC CID, DPC, and Regional SOCO conducted a thorough investigation at the scene, documenting their findings and following necessary procedures.
A postmortem examination was conducted at Kamwezi Health Centre IV, leading to the subsequent arrest of Guston Asiimwe and Ruth Aharizira, who are now in police custody. The investigation into the murder of Martin Tumwekwase is ongoing.
