Police in Ntungamo have apprehended a blue Fuso Fighter with registration number UBN 394 X, laden with Kazero Energy drink alcoholic Kumbucha manufactured in Uganda.
The impounding of the vehicle, which occurred at a fuel station in Ntungamo Municipality last week, was the culmination of meticulous tracking using police cameras from Kampala, as affirmed by DPC Ntungamo, Hannington Kanimi Busheija.
The Fuso had been under close observation due to suspected tax evasion, with outstanding debts owed to the Uganda Revenue Authority (URA). Upon inspection of the impounded vehicle, authorities discovered a significant quantity of Kazero Energy drink alcoholic Kumbucha, devoid of the mandatory URA seals. This revelation pointed towards an attempt to smuggle the beverages into Kabale and Kisoro Districts without fulfilling tax obligations.
DPC Ntungamo Busheija emphasized that the case will be referred to URA customs for further action. Additionally, the individuals involved in the smuggling operation will be handed over to Revenue Intelligence for a thorough investigation.
