The territorial police in Lira-City West Division are closely investigating a case of suspected suicide by hanging involving one Onyango Moses, believed to have occurred during the night at “Starch Factory” B-cell, Adyel A Ward, Lira-City West Division. This follows a report registered at Starch Factory Police by one Obonyo Billy, aged 35, and a resident of Ayango Cell, Ayango Ward, Lira-City West Division, Lira City.
According to the PRO North Kyoga Police Region, SP Jimmy Patrick Okema, in a statement issued on Sunday, it is alleged that the deceased, Onyango Moses, had been using marijuana, and subsequently, he would make a lot of noise along the road.
However, on December 10, 2023, at around 00:30 hours, he was heard making noise as usual. However, in the morning, he was discovered dead, hanging on a nylon rope under the veranda of Obonyo Billy’s house. A case file of suicide vide, Starch Factory, was registered.
Meanwhile, the crime scene was visited by a team of police officers led by the Divisional CID Officer, Scene of Crime Officer (SOCO), and other uniformed officers. The body of the deceased has been picked and conveyed to Lira Referral Hospital’s mortuary pending postmortem.
Preliminary findings indicate that the deceased was found kneeling down while hanging on a nylon rope. Onyango Moses (RIP) was a native of Otuke District and a well-known marijuana smoker, according to the locals surrounding where he used to stay.
SP Okema has advised members of the public not only to comment negatively about someone when the person is dead. Let’s inform our authorities at all levels about the conduct of an individual, not only in such situations but also for assistance or arrest and prosecution.
It’s indeed a very unfortunate incident, according to the police.
