Deo Kyaligonza, 57, a resident of Tuhumure village, Butoole parish, Kyangwali sub-county, was found dead after going missing in Kikuube district.
Kyaligonza disappeared from his home on July 6, 2024, prompting local residents to conduct a search without success. Mark Muramira, the area LC1 Chairperson, informed Uganda Radio Network (URN) that after unsuccessful search efforts, Kikuube police were alerted and joined in the search.
Deo Namanya, a relative, mentioned that Kyaligonza was last seen at home on July 6, 2024, in good health. His sudden disappearance shocked family members and the community.
Julius Hakiza, the Albertine region police spokesperson, reported that Kyaligonza’s lifeless body was discovered on July 7, 2024, in a maize garden within the same village. The body showed signs of bruising around the neck, suggesting he may have been strangled by his assailants before being dumped.
Police retrieved the body and transported it to Kikuube Health Center IV mortuary for a postmortem examination. Subsequently, the body was released to relatives for burial arrangements.
Hakiza confirmed that investigations are ongoing to apprehend the individuals responsible for the killing.
