Kamuli, Uganda – Mulungi Zainabu, a 21-year-old resident of Nalinaibi village, Nawanyago sub-county, Kamuli district, has been arrested by police for allegedly murdering and burying her one-year-old daughter, Kabawo Hadija. Authorities suspect the child was buried on Sunday, March 9, 2025.
Concerns arose among neighbors and relatives when the child was not seen for approximately two days. When questioned about the child’s absence, Mulungi claimed she had taken her daughter to the hospital and intended to visit her.
On Tuesday, Mulungi left her home and remained missing until her arrest in Kamuli municipality yesterday.
On Friday, March 14, 2025, at approximately 9:00 PM, family members detected a foul odor, prompting them to search the surrounding area. They discovered a suspected grave and, after notifying the local chairperson, confirmed it was the child’s burial site. The incident was then reported to the police.
Investigations revealed that Kabawo Asuman, Mulungi’s husband, was attending to his other household in Mbulamuti at the time of the alleged murder.
Prior to his departure, the child had fallen ill, and both parents had sought medical treatment. He was later informed of his daughter’s death, causing him great shock.
A team of detectives visited the scene, exhumed the body, and transported it to Kamuli General Hospital for a post-mortem examination.
Further investigations are ongoing to determine the circumstances surrounding the child’s death.
Police commend the public for their vigilance and for promptly providing information that led to the suspect’s arrest.
