Otuke Man Arrested for Wife’s Murder

A 38-year-old man, Jimmy Ogwel, from Merimaki Village in Otuke District, northern Uganda, has been taken into custody for causing the death of his wife, Jennet Atim, during a domestic altercation.

The tragic incident unfolded when the deceased had taken their sick child to a nearby clinic on Friday and stayed overnight. They returned home around 9 pm the following day. It’s reported that Jimmy Ogwel became enraged, suspecting his wife of infidelity. In the heat of the moment, he grabbed an axe and fatally injured her.




The North Kyoga regional police Spokesperson, SP Jimmy Patrick Okema, confirmed the incident, assuring ongoing investigations into the matter. The crime scene was visited by police officers from Otuke Central Police Station, and the suspect was apprehended. His case is being prepared for submission to the Resident State Attorney.




The deceased’s body has been conveyed to Orum Health Center IV, pending a post-mortem examination. Authorities have called for calm among the deceased’s relatives and emphasized the importance of controlling tempers before taking any actions.




In the broader context, the police crime report of 2022 indicates a decrease of 19.9 percent in reported cases of murder resulting from domestic violence, with a total of 301 cases reported, compared to 376 cases in 2021.
