An 18 year old man is on the run after allegedly raping a 75-year-old grandmother. The horrifying crime is said to have occurred in Alemu Village, Anepkide Parish, Olilim Sub-county, when the victim was returning home from Okolia Trading Centre on New Year’s Day.
The allegations surrounding this appalling incident point to the suspect’s motive being a Shs7,000 debt owed by the elderly woman. The suspect resorted to violence, slapping the elderly woman on the left side of her face, causing her to fall. Subsequently, he reportedly strangled her and forcefully committed the heinous act, despite her cries for help.
Eyewitness Harriet Awidi recounted finding the suspect still present at the crime scene. Disturbingly, she observed the suspect escaping as she approached, leaving the victim in a vulnerable state.
Following the incident, a report was promptly filed at Otuke Central Police Station. Detectives and Scene of Crime Officers visited the site to collect evidence, and statements from witnesses were recorded. The victim has been issued Police Form 3A for a medical examination at Orum Health Centre IV to document the extent of her injuries.
