Kampala, Uganda — The Kampala Metropolitan Police have arrested 101 suspects in a series of intelligence-led operations targeting robbery, theft, and drug-related crimes across the city.
According to Luke Owoyesigyire, the Deputy Spokesperson of Kampala Metropolitan Police, the coordinated operations were conducted between October 28 and 29 in KMP South and KMP East, focusing on criminal hotspots and individuals suspected of involvement in violent and opportunistic crimes.
“In Kampala Central Division, 40 suspects were rounded up in black spots linked to the theft of motor vehicle parts and other street crimes,” Owoyesigyire said.
He added that in Kira Municipality, specifically in Kitukutwe, Kiwologoma, Kungu, Buwate, and Najjera, seven suspects were arrested with suspected narcotics and a toy gun believed to have been used in robberies.
In Kajjansi Division, another 45 suspects were apprehended from Ngobe, Sseguku, and Kajjansi areas for their alleged involvement in early-morning robberies.
Meanwhile, in Mukono, a joint operation in Kyugu and Kisenyi–Degeya led to the arrest of nine suspects found in possession of suspected narcotic substances.
Owoyesigyire confirmed that all suspects are currently detained at their respective police stations pending screening and prosecution.
