Police Detain Suspect Accused of Posing as Woman to Secure Domestic Job, Steal UGX 1.7 Million

KAMPALA – Police in Nateete Division are holding a suspect accused of disguising himself as a woman to secure employment as a domestic worker before allegedly stealing UGX 1.7 million from his employers.

The suspect, identified as Kayaga Rayan, is alleged to have assumed the identity of Namirembe Rukia while applying for a domestic job at a residence in Mutundwe, Rubaga Division.

According to preliminary police investigations, the suspect allegedly concealed his identity by dressing in women’s clothing, applying makeup, and using other forms of disguise to convince the employers that he was female.

The alleged scheme reportedly unraveled following a routine security check at a church in Mutundwe, where questions were raised about the suspect’s identity. The incident prompted further inquiries, eventually leading to a police investigation.

Authorities said the matter was formally reported after the employers discovered that UGX 1.7 million had gone missing from their home.

Kampala Metropolitan Deputy Police Spokesperson ASP Luke Owoyesigyire confirmed that the suspect is currently detained at Nateete Police Station as detectives continue with investigations into the allegations.

“The suspect is in police custody pending the completion of investigations and will be arraigned in court once inquiries are concluded,” Owoyesigyire said.

Police have urged the public, particularly households employing domestic workers, to carry out thorough background checks and verify the identities of prospective employees before offering them jobs.

Investigations into the case are ongoing.
