RUKIGA, Uganda — Police in Rukiga District have launched investigations into the suspected murder of a 25-year-old Rwandan national who was found dead in Muhanga Town Council.

The deceased, identified only as Fakasi, is believed to have been strangled between the night of March 29 and the early hours of March 30, 2026. His body was discovered on Sunday morning in Kitaburaza Cell.

Fakasi had reportedly been living in the area with colleagues from Manyagiro Village in Gicumbi District, Rwanda, where they were working as casual labourers. Reports indicate that he had travelled to Kampala two months ago in search of employment before returning to Rukiga.

According to preliminary information, the body was discovered when one of his colleagues stepped outside and found him lying motionless in front of the house. The colleague alerted others who were working at the garden of the late Apollo Nyegamehe, also known as Aponye, and the matter was subsequently reported to the area chairperson, Bernard Kagurusi, who notified police.

The Kigezi Regional Police Spokesperson, Elly Maate, confirmed the incident, stating that officers visited and documented the scene. He noted that the body showed visible signs of strangulation and was found lying outside the residence.

Maate added that the body was conveyed to Kabale Regional Referral Hospital mortuary for a postmortem examination as investigations continue.

Police say inquiries are ongoing to establish the circumstances surrounding the suspected killing.
