School Fire in Masaka Claims Lives: One Victim Laid to Rest in Kakumiro

Seven young pupils lost their lives as a fire engulfed the dormitory at Kasaana Junior Primary School in Masaka City on a fateful Monday morning.

On Tuesday, the body of one of the victims, Aloyizious Ahebwa, was laid to rest in Kakumiro town council. Ahebwa was the son of Major Joseph Sebukeera, a resident of Kakumiro town council.

The fire, which occurred in the early hours of Monday, sent shockwaves through the community. Aloyizious Ahebwa, who was in top class, suffered severe burns in the inferno and sadly did not survive.

As the community mourned the loss, Rev Father Joachim Mugisa from Kakumiro Catholic Parish urged mourners to find strength in their faith during these trying times.

The cause of the fire remains under investigation by authorities. Lauben Sekabira, representing the Kasaana Junior Primary School, assured mourners that a comprehensive report would soon shed light on the circumstances surrounding the tragic incident.

Major David Matovu, the Kakumiro Resident District Commissioner, commended the deceased’s family for their cooperative and peaceful approach in dealing with the school during this difficult time.

The investigation into this devastating incident involves the UPDF Armoured Brigade experts, Chieftaincy of Military Intelligence (CMI), and the Police, all working diligently to ascertain the cause of the fire and any contributing factors.
