Police Hunt Unknown Assailants After Dentist, Wife, and Baby Killed
Nakasongola, Wednesday, September 27, 2023 – Police in Nakasongola District are searching for unidentified attackers who ambushed and fatally stabbed a dentist, his wife, and their six-month-old baby as they were returning home from work.
Julius Mutimba, a 45-year-old dental surgeon who operated a clinic and drug shop in Bamugolode village, was tragically killed on Monday evening, along with his wife, Resty Nakayima, 35, and their infant, known only as Immaculate. The family was riding on a motorcycle when they encountered an ambush at Bamugolode parish in Kalongo sub-county, around 9 p.m.
According to Mr. Sam Twineamazima, the Savannah Region Police Spokesperson, Mutimba had just collected his wife and baby from Nalubobya village and was riding on a motorcycle when they encountered a roadblock set up by the suspected assailants.
Their lifeless bodies were discovered with stab wounds, lying beside their motorcycle, in a pool of blood. They have been transported to Nakasongola Health Centre IV Mortuary for a postmortem examination as the police intensify their search for the perpetrators.
Mr. Edward Kimbowa, the LC1 vice chairperson for Bamugolode village in Kalongo Sub County, revealed that they became aware of the attack at approximately 9:30 p.m.
Mr. Rogers Sunday Bwanga, the district councilor representing Kalongo Sub County and district council speaker, expressed his concern about the meticulously planned and coordinated nature of the attack. He described how the assailants had set up roadblocks using various obstacles such as stones, tree trunks, and barbed wires, suggesting that they may have communicated with each other via phone to ensure only their intended targets were ensnared on a road commonly used by many.
Nakasongola LC5 chairperson, Mr. Sam Kigula, called on residents to be vigilant, particularly given the surprising timing of the attack when some people would be expected to use the road. He emphasized the need for increased community awareness and security in the area.
