OYAM DISTRICT, Uganda – A quiet evening trip to a local dance event ended in tragedy for 18-year-old Owiny Denis, whose body was discovered early Sunday morning lying in the middle of the Kamdini–Lira Road with severe injuries, prompting police to open a suspected murder investigation.
The body of Denis, a peasant farmer and resident of Alyec Village, was found around 5:00 a.m. on May 17, 2026, at Adak A Village. Authorities believe he may have been struck by moving vehicles after being left on the roadway under unclear circumstances.
The Police spokesperson for North Kyoga Region, SP PJ Okema, confirmed that the case was officially reported later that morning at approximately 7:30 a.m. by Enin Bosco, a 64-year-old resident of Alyec Village.
According to preliminary reports, Denis had left his home during the evening hours of May 16 to attend a dance event at a bar owned by one Ogwang Patrick in Adak A Village, Ocini Parish, Kamdini Sub-county.
The grim discovery was first made by local residents, who alerted the area LC I Chairperson. The chairperson then notified police, triggering an immediate response from a team of detectives and uniformed personnel led by D/ASP Ayoo Lucy, the Divisional CID Officer for Oyam.
Scene-of-crime officers, including D/CPL Edou and D/C Omwany, examined and documented the location. Denis’s body was later conveyed to Anyeke Health Centre IV for a postmortem examination.
Inquiries are ongoing, with investigators working to retrieve the postmortem report, record statements from additional witnesses, and identify and apprehend suspected culprits.
Police have urged anyone with information about the incident to come forward as they work to piece together the events leading to the teenager’s death.
