Three suspects are in custody at Kibaale Central Police Station for the alleged murder of a woman. Two of the suspects are Geoffrey Ssegawa and Leonard Mukisa, both residents of Kasungwa village in Kabasekende sub-county. The third suspect remains unidentified.
The suspects are accused of brutally murdering Korodina Muhebwe, also a resident of the same area. The incident occurred on Saturday night.
Information obtained by Uganda Radio Network (URN) reveals that the suspects, along with others still at large, coordinated, planned, and executed the murder of Muhebwe. They reportedly ambushed the deceased as she was returning home from the Kabasekende trading center and strangled her to death. Her body was later dumped in the Nyamususu swamp.
Anaclet Kaahwa, the deceased’s husband, said he waited in vain for his wife to return home. He eventually reported the matter to the police, who promptly launched an investigation.
Later that morning, area residents and the police discovered the deceased’s body in the Nyamususu swamp. Moses Kitamirike, the Kibaale District Police Commander (DPC), confirmed the arrest of three suspects to assist with the investigation.
According to Kitamirike, bruises on the deceased’s neck and face indicate that she was likely strangled by her attackers before her body was dumped in the swamp. He added that the search for other suspects is ongoing and appealed to the public to cooperate with security forces by providing any information that could lead to their arrest.
The arrested suspects will be arraigned in court on murder charges once investigations are complete.
The deceased’s body was retrieved by the police, taken to Kibaale Health Center IV for a post-mortem examination, and subsequently released to the family for burial arrangements.
