Mayuge Distric, Uganda –– Police in Mayuge District have confirmed a tragic boat accident on Lake Victoria that has left three people dead and several others missing.
The incident occurred near Bugoto Landing Site in Bukabooli Sub-county when a boat carrying an unspecified number of passengers capsized under unclear circumstances.
According to Busoga East Police spokesperson Michael Kasadha, the deceased “who are yet to be identified” include one adult female and two children. Four people were successfully rescued from the water.
Police and local rescue teams have since launched a search operation to locate other individuals believed to be missing.
Officers from Mayuge Central Police Station are currently at the scene coordinating rescue efforts, while also conducting preliminary investigations to establish the exact cause of the accident.
Authorities have urged the public, especially water transport operators, to strictly observe safety measures while using water bodies in order to prevent similar tragedies.
