Two police officers engaged in a fatal exchange of gunfire, resulting in the death of Assistant Inspector of Police (AIP) William Ochom in a gun fight incident in Tororo District, eastern Uganda. The incident occurred on Wednesday, January 31, around 9 pm at a drinking joint in Petta Sub County.
According to eyewitnesses, the confrontation began with a disagreement, leading Inspector of Police (IP) Moses Okwele to leave the premises silently. However, he returned moments later armed with an SMG Rifle and opened fire on his junior officer, AIP Ochom. Tragically, Ochom sustained severe gunshot wounds to the stomach and succumbed to his injuries.
Bukedi South Regional Police Spokesperson, Mr. Moses Mugwe, confirmed that both officers, Okwele and Ochom, were stationed at Petta Police post prior to the incident. The disagreement that escalated into gunfire reportedly revolved around a barmaid at the drinking joint.
Police detectives are currently conducting an investigation into the incident to ascertain the details surrounding the disagreement and the events leading to the tragic shooting.
