Detectives from Kenya’s Anti-Narcotics Unit (ANU) and the Transnational Organized Crime Unit (TOCU) have arrested two suspected drug traffickers following a successful operation that led to the seizure of cannabis sativa along the Nakuru–Nairobi Highway in Limuru.

According to the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI), the suspects were intercepted after intelligence reports indicated they were transporting illegal drugs along the busy highway.

Acting on credible leads, detectives mounted an ambush targeting a Toyota Hiace vehicle travelling from Kakamega towards Nairobi. A swift search of the vehicle uncovered two black bags concealed in the cargo area.

Each bag was found to contain a tightly packed bale of cannabis sativa, carefully wrapped with yellow cellotape in an apparent attempt to disguise the contents.

The two suspects, both identified as Ugandan nationals, were immediately arrested at the scene.

They are currently being held at Muthaiga Police Station as they undergo processing ahead of arraignment in court. The seized narcotics have been secured and will be produced as exhibits during prosecution.

The DCI commended the operation and reiterated the importance of public cooperation in the fight against drug trafficking, urging citizens to report suspicious activities through its anonymous hotline.

Authorities say the arrest highlights continued efforts by Kenyan security agencies to dismantle transnational drug trafficking networks operating across the region.

The suspects are expected to face charges under Kenyan law once investigations are complete.
