The Masaka Diocesan bishop, Rt Rev Severus Jjumba, has undertaken a reshuffling of priests to enhance service delivery within the diocese. This marks the fifth reshuffle since Bishop Jjumba assumed office in July 2019.
The changes, outlined in a statement dated February 2, 2024, and issued by Fr Charles Jude Jjuko, the diocesan chancellor, include the following key appointments:
- Fr Simon Peter Lutaaya, formerly assistant priest at Kitovu Cathedral Parish, is now the parish priest of Luvule Catholic Parish in Masaka District.
- Fr John Mary Ssengabi, former assistant priest at Bisanje Parish, is now the assistant priest at Bumangi Catholic Parish and also the assistant education secretary in Kalangala District.
- Fr Daudi Ssemwanga, previously at Katimba Catholic Parish, is assigned to the Priests Rest House in Kitovu.
The reshuffle also involves changes in leadership roles:
- Fr Eli Akugizibwe OSM is transferred from Ndejje Servites Community to Katwe Centre as the parish priest.
- Fr Innocent Bukenya, former assistant priest at Luvule Catholic Parish, moves to Bukalasa Minor Seminary in Kalungu District.
- Fr Kizito Nkonge Nswa, a tutor at Bukalasa Minor Seminary, is now the head teacher of Blessed Sacrament Secondary School in Kimaanya.
Other notable changes include the appointment of Fr Joseph Mary Bbuye as the Assistant Priest at Biikira Parish in Kyotera District and Fr Martin Ssemanda, the former chaplain of Villa Maria Hospital, as the assistant priest at Makukuulu Parish in Sembabule District.
Rev. Fr Fredrick Bugembe, a newly ordained priest, assumes the role of Assistant Priest at Blessed Sacrament Parish, Kimaanya.
