The 1st Obongi district Grade one (G1) magistrate, His Worship Ngamije Mbale, convened the first district coordinating committee meeting to address lawlessness, insecurity, and defilement in Obongi district.

The DCC meeting, chaired by the G1 magistrate and co-chaired by the Obongi Resident District Commissioner (RDC) Samuel Mpimbaza Hashaka, sadly noted that defilement rates have increased significantly in the district, leading to high dropout rates in all schools.

The leaders, including the DPC Obongi SP Nkurunziza Graciano, OC CID Isiko Balisanyuka, district vice chairperson Okuonzi Louis Drale, Principal CAO Tabu Job, child rights activists, and UNHCR officials, were informed about shocking details regarding the defilement of pupils as young as 13 years old.

They were shocked to hear that after defiling and impregnating the pupils, the defilers, including some leaders from Obongi, marry them and force them to stop going to school.

The meeting therefore decided to work together to combat defilement and prosecute defilers.

RDC Hashaka Samuel Mpimbaza told this publication that anyone who tries to conceal defilement will face legal consequences.

Recently, some individuals were remanded in Obongi district after being arrested in Obongi town council for defilement-related cases.
