Both Makerere University and the Islamic University in Uganda (IUIU) have invited the Bamasaba cultural leader, His Highness Jude Mike Mudoma, to their respective events.
This was revealed by the spokesperson of the Bamasaba Cultural Institution, Mr. Steven Masiga.
According to Mr. Masiga, the Vice Chancellor of the Islamic University in Uganda, Associate Professor Ismail Simbwa Gyagenda, has invited the Bamasaba cultural leader to attend the 33rd graduation ceremony, which will be held on December 14, 2024, at the main campus in Mbale.
In the invitation letter to His Highness the Umukuka, Professor Gyagenda expressed the university’s greetings, stating: “Assalam Alaikum Warahmatullah Wabarakatuh, Your Highness” (which translates to “Peace be upon you, Your Highness”).
The Vice Chancellor further extended warm greetings on behalf of the Islamic University in Uganda, saying, “I convey to you warm greetings and best wishes from the Islamic University in Uganda.
I am writing to inform you of our graduation ceremony, but specifically, to take this singular honor and invite you as the cultural representative of your people, the Bamasaba.” He concluded the letter by saying, “Please accept the assurances of our highest consideration and esteem.”
Mr. Masiga, spokesperson for the Bamasaba Cultural Institution, emphasized that all land in Masabaland belongs to the Umukuka, and that the Islamic University has made the right decision in inviting the Umukuka to witness the graduation of those who have studied on his land. He further stated that other universities and learning institutions should follow the example set by the Islamic University.
Meanwhile, Makerere University has also extended an invitation to the Bamasaba cultural leader to attend an international conference titled “International Conference on Geographical Sciences for Resilient Communities, Ecosystems, and Livelihoods.” The event will be held at the Africana Hotel in Kampala. The invitation was issued by Makerere University as the convener of the workshop, through Professor Yazidhi Bamutuaze, the Principal of the College of Agricultural and Environmental Sciences. Mr. Masiga confirmed this invitation to this publication.
At the conference, the Umukuka will join other high-level dignitaries, including the Minister of State for Environment, Hon. Beatrice Anywar, as a keynote speaker.
Additionally, on Friday, the Umukuka III will travel to Ibanda University to serve as the Chief Guest during their graduation ceremony.
