Schools in the Lango sub-region reopen for the 2024 academic year with low pupil turnout.

Abedi Primary School in Apac District had only eight pupils out of 712 enrolled by 10:00 am.

Similarly, Okutoagwe Primary School and Alemere Primary School had minimal attendance compared to their total enrollments.



Aduku Boarding Primary School received only 56 out of 1,206 learners, prompting the head teacher to urge parents to send children to school promptly.

Chawente Primary School in Kwania District faced a similar situation, with only 158 pupils out of 800 present on the first day, affecting syllabus coverage and performance.

Authorities warn parents of fines for keeping children at home, emphasizing the importance of timely school attendance for academic success.

Some parents cite financial challenges, while district officials urge local leaders to encourage school attendance and enforce regulations if necessary.
