Makerere University has completed the printing of transcripts for the upcoming 74th graduation ceremony, scheduled to take place from January 29th to February 2, 2024. The institution aims to provide graduands with their academic documents before the official commencement of the graduation ceremony.

Prof Umar Kakumba, the Deputy Vice Chancellor for Academic Affairs, highlighted the significance of this early transcript issuance during an interview at Africana Hotel. He emphasized that the transcripts have already been distributed across all the colleges, urging prospective graduands who have fulfilled their obligations to visit their respective College Registrars for document collection.

To streamline the clearance process for graduands, Prof Kakumba called upon them to promptly process and submit their clearance forms to their respective college registrars. Unlike previous years, where the clearance process involved multiple offices, this year’s clearance only requires obtaining two stamps from the university bursar and library.

The new approach aims to alleviate the challenges faced by students in the past, where they had to navigate through various university offices, often encountering delays due to officials being unavailable.

The slogan for this year’s graduation is “walk away with your transcript after Freedom Square,” reinforcing the commitment to providing over 13,000 graduands with their transcripts on the graduation day itself.

While some students express optimism and welcome the change, others remain cautiously optimistic, hoping that the university will uphold its commitment to timely document issuance. Past experiences of delayed transcript releases have fueled skepticism, but positive feedback from the public indicates an appreciation for the university’s efforts to enhance efficiency in administrative processes.
