The Namasagali College Alumni Association has joined hands with Busoga Kingdom to kickstart a tree planting initiative known as “Greening Busoga.” Led by chairperson Maureen Mwagale, the association, along with over 20 alumni, planted trees outside Kyabazinga’s Igenge Palace in Bugembe, Jinja City. They were joined by Eng. Patrick Batumbya, the chairperson of the organizing committee for the Busoga Royal wedding.
Mwagale expressed that the initiative was inspired by the alumni’s donation towards the Kyabazinga wedding, and they decided to make it a lasting contribution to the community and the environment. The plan includes planting trees along the Royal Mile, stretching from Igenge Palace to the main road. The alumni also sought permission from Busoga Kingdom to extend tree planting efforts across the kingdom.
The “Greening Busoga” initiative aims to plant approximately 200 trees along the 1.6-kilometer Royal Mile, addressing environmental concerns in the Busoga region, which has been significantly impacted by climate change. Eric Byenkya, the vice-chairperson of the association, emphasized the collaborative effort to re-green Busoga. Eng. Patrick Batumbya expressed joy in partnering with the association, highlighting the significance of their commitment to greening Busoga in commemoration of the royal wedding.
