Mbale SS Rewards Top UACE Students with Shs1m Each to Boost Academic Excellence

Mbale City, Uganda — The headteacher of Mbale Secondary School, Moses Buyela, has awarded four top-performing students Shs1 million each after they scored 20 points in the 2025 UACE examinations.

The awards were presented on Monday, March 23, 2026, in a gesture aimed at recognizing academic excellence and inspiring other learners to aim higher.

Speaking to the media after handing over the cash prizes, Buyela emphasized the importance of appreciating outstanding performance, noting that such recognition plays a key role in motivating students to work harder.

“When learners see their colleagues being rewarded, it encourages them to put in more effort and strive for excellence,” he said.

Beyond the financial reward, Buyela urged the top-performing students to return to the school and support teaching efforts. He explained that peer-to-peer guidance can enhance understanding among students and contribute to improved academic performance.

The headteacher also acknowledged that while the Shs1 million reward may appear modest, it can significantly ease the financial burden on parents and help students prepare for university life.

Buyela revealed that the initiative is part of a long-standing commitment by the school to reward academic excellence. He affirmed that students who score straight As at O-Level and those who attain 20 points at A-Level will continue to benefit from the program.

He concluded by encouraging current students to remain focused and disciplined in their studies so they too can take advantage of the incentive.
