President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni delivered his end-of-year address from his country home in Rwakitura, Kiruhura district, outlining four critical issues that the government will prioritize in 2024. The key areas of focus include wealth creation in homes, the fight against corruption, regional integration, and the ongoing effort to eliminate terrorists operating from the neighboring Democratic Republic of Congo.
President Museveni highlighted the Ugandan army’s persistent pursuit of rebels and their hideouts, primarily through air offensives. Despite terrorists attempting to infiltrate the country, he ruled out closing the border, urging citizens to remain vigilant. He advised people to be cautious, recommending that if anyone asks them to hold a bag or package, they should insist on it being opened. Any suspicious items should be reported to the police.
In his address, the President renewed the call for Ugandans to participate in high-value agriculture, even with small-scale farming. However, he emphasized the government’s long-term plan to transition people from agriculture to industry and services due to the greater absorption capacity of these sectors.
President Museveni issued a stern warning to corrupt individuals, stating that they would be identified and brought to justice. The commitment to rooting out corruption aligns with the government’s agenda to ensure transparency and accountability.
