Fire Ravages Murukoro Market in Rubanda District, Traders Count Losses

Traders in Murukoro market business center, located in Muko Sub County, Rubanda West County, Rubanda district, are facing significant losses following a fire that destroyed wooden kiosks in the early hours of Saturday morning.

Tito Tugume, an eyewitness and resident of the area, informed our reporter that the fire started around 6:00 AM originating from one of the kiosks situated in Rugarambiro village along Muko-Katuna Rubaya road.




According to Tugume, more than 20 kiosks, along with their merchandise, were reduced to ashes. Jude Ndamwesiga Baziriyo, another eyewitness, reported that various businesses including welding materials, a salon, retail shops, drums of porridge, bars, and casino gaming machines were all destroyed in the blaze.




Patrick Abeneimwe, the Muko Sub County LCIII chairperson, stated that by the time the police fire brigade arrived from Kabale police station in Kabale district, the fire had already caused damage estimated at over 30 million shillings in merchandise and kiosks. Abeneimwe noted that extinguishing the fire was challenging due to the wooden structures.




He also mentioned that the cause of the fire remains unknown, but confirmed that there were no casualties.

As of press time, police fire brigade officers were still actively working to extinguish the fire.
