Four Injured in Suspected Wartime Bomb Explosion at Mbale Scrap Yard

MBALE, Uganda — Four people were injured following an explosion involving a suspected unidentified device at a scrap metal workshop in Mbale City, police have confirmed.

The incident occurred on March 17, 2026, in St. Andrews Cell, South Central Ward, within the Industrial Division of Mbale City.

According to preliminary reports, the explosion happened as workers were offloading scrap metal from a vehicle at the workshop.

The injured individuals were immediately rushed to Mbale Regional Referral Hospital, where they are currently receiving treatment. Authorities have not yet disclosed the extent of their injuries.

A team from the police Bomb Squad was dispatched to the scene to assess the situation and secure the area. Investigators recovered fragments believed to be from the suspected explosive device, which have since been taken for further analysis to establish the exact nature and origin of the blast.

Police have urged the public, particularly scrap dealers and collectors, to exercise caution when handling materials of unknown origin. The community has been advised to promptly report any suspicious or unfamiliar objects to security agencies to prevent similar incidents.
