RUBIRIZI, Uganda — The Ministry of Tourism is planning to inject funds into Rubirizi District to strengthen tourism development and boost the local economy. The move follows a meeting between ministry officials and leaders from the Rubirizi District Local Government to discuss the district’s Tourism Potential Development Plan.
The meeting aimed at exploring ways through which Rubirizi District can fully benefit from its rich tourism resources while improving livelihoods within local communities.
According to Mr. Tumusiime Vincent Bamugaya, the Director of Economic Monitoring and Research in the Office of the President, the meeting was organised to equip district leaders with knowledge on how to tap into tourism opportunities, generate revenue, and educate communities on the importance of tourism as a sustainable source of income.
Mr. Bamugaya urged residents to actively engage in productive activities such as farming, acquire land, and invest in income-generating ventures that can support their families and help educate their children. He noted that proper utilisation of tourism funds can significantly transform the tourism sector in Rubirizi District.
Meanwhile, the LC5 Chairperson of Rubirizi District, Mr. Aguba Silvester, described the district as one of Uganda’s key tourism destinations that deserves increased government investment, particularly in tourism and park infrastructure.
He appreciated the Ministry of Tourism for recognising the district’s potential and pledged the district leadership’s support in promoting tourism development.
Mr. Aguba also encouraged local communities to prepare for increased tourist activity by producing handicrafts and showcasing the area’s rich cultural heritage, which can create additional sources of income for residents.
He further called upon residents to work together in promoting Rubirizi as a leading tourism destination, emphasizing that community participation is essential for the success and sustainability of tourism development in the district.
