GULU, UGANDA – July 15, 2025 – The Gulu District Security Committee (DSC) held an extraordinary meeting today, Tuesday, to finalize plans for ensuring peaceful National Resistance Movement (NRM) primary elections slated for Thursday, July 17, 2025.

The impromptu meeting involved key stakeholders including the District NRM Registrar, District NRM Chairperson, Administrative Secretary, and District Internal Security Officer (DISO), among other core members of the DSC.

The primary objective was to devise a critical plan to guarantee a peaceful electoral process.

During the meeting, Gulu district was strategically divided into four different security zones, each to be headed by various commanders.

This comprehensive security operation will be under the overall supervision of the Resident District Commissioner (RDC), Deputy Resident District Commissioner (DRDC), and Assistant RDCs.

James Cosmos Okidi, the Deputy RDC, shared the outcomes of the meeting with the media on Tuesday evening, asserting that a “total peaceful NRM primary election” will be conducted across Gulu district. “We must maintain peace, law, and order throughout the process,” Okidi emphasized.

Particular attention will be given to Gulu City, especially Bardege-Layibi Division, which is widely regarded as a hotspot for intense competition within the entire Acholi sub-region.

Security forces are poised to manage any potential tensions and ensure a smooth electoral exercise.
