Confusion and questions stillsurround the death of Rogers Deebat, 60, a machine operator at Africa Polysack Industries Ltd in Mukono, who died after being struck by a forklift inside the factory premises.
Police in Mukono say the incident happened on September 8, 2025, around 4:30pm, when Deebat was knocked while on duty. He was rushed to the factory clinic, later transferred in a community ambulance towards Kibuli Hospital, but diverted to Gwatiiro Hospital where doctors pronounced him dead. His body was taken to Mulago City Mortuary for postmortem.
ASP Luke Owoyesigyire, Deputy PRO Kampala Metropolitan Police, confirmed investigations are ongoing: “The Police have visited the crime scene and are yet to record statements from witnesses and obtain CCTV footage. We are also actively tracing the suspect who was allegedly driving the forklift.”
However, some sources allege that Deebat’s death was not an accident but a result of a heated quarrel with a colleague, identified as Hussein, who was driving the forklift. They accuse management of attempting to cover up the incident.
The case has raised fresh questions about safety standards at factories and how disputes between workers are handled. Police have urged the public to avoid speculation, saying: “So far, there is no evidence to suggest the incident was intentional.”
However, many are wondering why the company has yet to submit CCTV footage as per the Police because this would help in solving the debacle.
“The Police have visited the crime scene and are yet to record statements from witness , obtain CCTV footages of the incident. We are also actively tracing the suspect who was allegedly driving the forklift at the time of the incident so as to aid our inquiries.”
This has left a lot of netizens wondering if the company is covering up this act to save face. However, as details emerge regarding this case, we shall keep you updated.
