Kabale, Uganda – The Catholic Diocesan Bishop of Kabale, Callistus Rubaramira, presided over the ceremony to officially open Muchahi Parish in Bubare Subcounty, Rubanda District, yesterday.
During the ceremony, Bishop Rubaramira announced Rev. Fr. Vincent Ankunda as the new priest of Muchahi Parish.
The newly inaugurated worship center is named St. Peter’s Catholic Parish Muchahi and will serve as the central hub for nine Catholic outstations, also known as Hiikas. These include Muchahi Nyamiringa Hiika, Ihanga, Kagaranma, Nyakiaharo, Butoboore, Ngasire, Kashaki, and Rwere Hiika.
Speaking as the chief guest, State Minister of Finance Henry Musasizi expressed his excitement, noting that Muchahi is the first parish with all its outstations (Hiikas) located in Rubanda East Constituency.
Hon. Musasizi, who also serves as Rubanda East MP and Rubanda District NRM Chairperson, pledged government support to Muchahi SACCO to boost economic empowerment programs in the area.
Henry Musasizi: “We will support Muchahi SACCO to boost economic empowerment programs within the area.”
Ms. Jaqueline Katabazi, Rubanda District Woman MP hopeful, gifted the new Muchahi Catholic Parish with brand new worship instruments, especially those needed for the Holy Eucharist sacrament.
The head of laity in the Kabale Diocese, Mr. Odo Tumukwasiibwe, explained that Muchahi Parish had been carved out of Kabale-based Christ the King Parish. He urged the new leadership, led by Rev. Fr. Vincent, to ensure the implementation of earlier development projects, including the construction of the priest’s house, Bubare Secondary School, teachers’ quarters, among others.
Odo Tumukwasiibwe: “We ask the new leadership to ensure that earlier development projects are implemented.”
Bishop Rubaramira urged the Christians of Muchahi to build their parish on faith in Jesus Christ and to maximize their spiritual gifts to support one another.
