Lango historicals are seeking urgent attention from His Excellency, the President of the Republic of Uganda, Gen. Yoweri Kaguta Museveni. A section of Lango historicals and renowned supporters of the NRM party have petitioned the office of the National Chairman of NRM and State House Entebbe on four major issues, presenting them as their demands to H.E Yoweri Kaguta Museveni.

In a letter dated December 8, 2023, addressed to the office of His Excellency (a copy of which The Ankole Times has also obtained), their top agenda and demand is the endorsement of President Museveni as the presidential candidate for the 2026 general elections.

The four-page letter, seen by The Ankole Times, reads on page three, pointing out, “You should contest again as the president of the Republic because we, the people of Lango, have just begun feeling the test of your brilliant leadership.”

Second in their demands is the construction of the Lango palace, as it is long overdue. According to them, this will promote tourism and create jobs for the Wanahinci, especially the youth in the Lango sub-region.

Third in their needs is the construction of the Akii-Bua stadium, as it is now a key demand among the people of the Lango sub-region. Among other issues is support for the problem of road carnage in Northern Uganda, emphasizing that support be given to the association of UPAPA (Uganda Passengers and Pedestrians Association), based in Northern Uganda. They now request the president to empower UPAPA financially through grants.

They also requested H.E the President to support the family of the late Field Marshal John Gideon Okello since they are living in total poverty in the village of Okut, Aloi parish, Alebtong district.

Lastly, the historicals quoted, “We, therefore, request you to find it in your heart as the National Chairman of the mighty NRM Party and President of the Republic of Uganda to provide support in terms of iron sheets, cement, and financial assistance to the historical men and women in the Lango sub-region because they were active and positive towards NRM ideology and development in the field.”

The letter was signed by Ameto Patrick, a senior NRM cadre (0782870150), and Bernard Anyeko Masanga (0772324093), showing their commitment to the yellow community of the NRM party and ONC, His Excellency Gen. Yoweri Kaguta Museveni.

While talking to The Ankole Times newspaper on Friday afternoon in a telephone interview, Ameto Patrick said it is their prayer that the President should also have time to talk to the historicals in the Lango sub-region so that he listens to their problems and advice. Anyeko Masanga, while talking to The Ankole Times newspaper reporter in Lira City today, delivered both the hard copy and soft copy of the letter addressed to the Fountain of Honour and said President Museveni is still leading the country in the right direction.
