A driver identified as Uzia Alex, aged 49, attached to the RISO’s office in the Lango Sub-region, was involved in an accident at around 15:45 hours on September 4, 2024, near Jinja Camp along Juba Road.
According to the police PRO for North Kyoga Region, SP Jimmy Patrick Okema, it was alleged that Motorvehicle Reg No UG 4260C Toyota Hillux had parked at Jinja Camp along Juba Road, and the driver Uzia Alex had come out and was standing beside his vehicle. A bus Reg No UAH 848F Nissan yellow in color, which was leaving Lira City towards Kamdini, struck the driver of the UG 4260C Toyota Hillux, causing serious injuries.
He was quickly rushed to a nearby clinic but was pronounced dead on arrival. The driver of the bus later reported himself to Lira City CPS.
SP Jimmy Okema stated that the police were informed, and the scene of the crime was visited by the OC traffic Lira City and other officers. The victim’s body was conveyed to Lira Regional Referral Hospital’s mortuary pending a post-mortem.
Meanwhile, the motorvehicle was taken to CPS, and the bus was parked at the station pending an IOV inspection. The bus driver, identified as Wanade Twaha, has been detained at CPS as investigations continue.
Preliminary findings indicate that the cause of the accident was careless driving by the bus driver.
