Law Student Intern Remanded Over Alleged Leak of Bobi Wine Court Records

GULU, Uganda —  A law student intern attached to the Gulu High Court has been remanded to prison for allegedly photographing and sharing confidential court records related to a case involving opposition leader Robert Kyagulanyi Ssentamu without authorization.

The suspect, Gloria Grace Laker, a Diploma in Law student at the Law Development Centre, appeared before Grade One Magistrate Miriam Amoro on Friday.

The prosecution alleges that between March 6 and March 9, 2026, Laker photographed entries from a criminal court register at the High Court of Uganda in Gulu and later shared the information on social media platforms without permission from court authorities.

According to the prosecution, the register contained information relating to a criminal case in which Kyagulanyi, the president of the National Unity Platform, is accused of making false statements about a person’s character.

Laker denied the allegations when the charges were read to her in court.

Her lawyers attempted to apply for bail, but the court deferred the application after the state attorney handling the matter was unavailable.

Magistrate Amoro subsequently ordered that the accused be remanded until March 17, 2026, when her bail application will be heard and the case mentioned again.

Court officials say investigations into the alleged unauthorized access to and sharing of court documents are still ongoing.
